Orthotics Offer Beneficial Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis.

Chiropractic: Orthotics Offer Beneficial Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis.
According to a new research review, the use of foot orthotics may be more effective for patients with acute plantar fasciitis than other non-surgical options like NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like ibuprofen), stretching, and lifestyle modifications. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel and arch pain. It involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, which runs across the bottom of the foot and connects the heel to the toes. The authors of the review found that both prefabricated and custom-fitted foot orthotics reduce pain and improve function in adults with acute plantar fasciitis with few risks or side effects. They conclude that when used alone or in addition to conventional therapies, foot orthotics are effective and well-tolerated by patients for short-term pain relief and improved function.
